For jazz musicians, playing improvised, highly interactive music with other humans has a way of building connections and relationships that form powerful bonds of friendship and camaraderie. Maclean wrote this tune in the early days of the pandemic after the cancellation of multiple tours and live performances left him feeling both shut off, and cut off as he discovered it wasn't just the music that was missed -- but the bonding experiences between the players as well. This tune attempts to encapsulate those feelings with its medium-swinging lilt, not unlike Herbie's own "Driftin". Ben Duff in particular shines on this tune, the wood of his deep bass tone resonating throughout his solo. Beyond the breeziness of the melody, and the pirouetting solos of both Brown and Maclean, this bond between players is evidenced at the 2:02 mark as the listener can hear Brown yelling "whoa!" in response to Maclean's line of the moment. Brotherhood indeed.
